Four Main Pillars of Our Policy

Accelerate
Innovation in the Defense &
Security Business

Build Bridges
between Global and Japanese Defense & Security
Enterprises

Promote Exchange of Knowledge and Insights between the World and Japan

Foster Talent to Lead the Global Defense & Security Business

Accelerate Innovation in the Defense & Security Business

1

Accelerate Innovation in the Defense & Security Business

Through security business forums and related initiatives, we integrate the needs of the security field—both in Japan and abroad—with technological seeds to drive innovation.

We also contribute to industrial advancement by conducting research and analysis in practical, real-world environments, including those overseas.

By fostering collaboration among industry, government, and academia, we provide opportunities for education, research, and hands-on business experience in both domestic and international settings. We also support the acquisition of globally relevant expertise and advanced technologies.

Build Bridges between Global and Japanese Defense & Security Enterprises

1

Build Bridges between Global and Japanese Defense & Security Enterprises

We connect security frontlines with corporate frontlines, enabling business professionals to gain a closer understanding of the needs and operational realities in the field. This helps create an environment where products and services can be developed to directly reflect frontline demands.

We also connect frontlines across different companies, breaking down fixed assumptions and encouraging a more open environment for innovation—thereby promoting the creation of new businesses and services.

By linking security frontlines in Japan and abroad, we are establishing a framework to monitor global trends in technologies, products, and services, and to support the development of optimal solutions that meet real on-the-ground needs.

Promote Exchange of Knowledge and Insights between the World and Japan

1

Promote Exchange of Knowledge and Insights between the World and Japan

We operate NSBT Japan, a comprehensive online platform dedicated to the security business. By delivering domestic and international news, expert commentary, event information, and video content, we are building a global community in the field of security business.

In collaboration with leading companies, organizations, and specialized institutions both in Japan and overseas, we organize exhibitions, conferences, and seminars. These events offer valuable business matching opportunities, enabling Japanese SMEs and startups to expand their presence domestically and internationally.

We also work closely with influential overseas partners to support participation in international exhibitions—including the establishment of Japan Pavilions—and to create opportunities for global engagement through international conferences, business meetings, joint research, and demonstration trials.

Foster Talent to Lead the Global Defense & Security Business

1

Foster Talent to Lead the Global Defense & Security Business

We provide a stimulating environment where young researchers and engineers can actively engage with international security business communities, acquire advanced knowledge and technologies, and refine their skills through hands-on experience.

We establish partnerships with security-related organizations both in Japan and overseas to facilitate personnel exchanges, promote technical cooperation, and create business matching opportunities.

Our support for the reemployment of retired Self-Defense Forces personnel goes beyond simply increasing the number of job matches by role. We aim to enhance the quality of this support by offering opportunities for retired personnel to connect with companies, leveraging their specialized expertise to act as bridges between the Self-Defense Forces and private industry, thereby helping to close the innovation gap.

Message from the Chairman

Koichi Isobe, Chairman

Security Business Innovation Japan (SBIJ)
I am Koichi Isobe, Chairman of Security Business Innovation Japan (SBIJ). Our association does not view the defense industry narrowly as defense alone; rather, we take a broader perspective encompassing defense, law enforcement, firefighting, public safety, and related fields under the concept of the “defense and security business.” We are committed to developing and expanding this concept.
Guided by the motto “connecting the frontlines,” we dedicate ourselves to linking the defense and security frontlines with businesses and academia by matching the “needs of the defense and security frontlines” with the “seeds from businesses and academia.” Through this effort, we aim to revitalize Japan’s defense and security business sector.
Furthermore, SBIJ aspires to be an “innovation hub” for the defense and security business, focusing on four core pillars:

  • Accelerate Innovation in the Defense & Security Business
  • Build Bridges between Global and Japanese Defense & Security Enterprises
  • Promote Exchange of Knowledge and Insights between the World and Japan
  • Foster Talent to Lead the Global Defense & Security Business

Looking at the current international landscape, we witness profound shifts in the global order. The post-World War II order, established under the leadership of the United States and its allies, is being disrupted, yet the shape of a new international order remains uncertain. Amid such global changes, securing one’s own safety through independent efforts is indispensable.
With our motto of “connecting the frontlines,” SBIJ serves as an innovation hub by focusing on driving innovation, facilitating international business collaboration, promoting global information sharing, and nurturing globally capable human resources. Through these efforts, we contribute to the stability and prosperity of Japan and the world.
We sincerely look forward to your continued support and cooperation.
